Prof Patricia Price

I am currently the Dean and Head of School for Healthcare Studies at Cardiff University.  In addition to working with Allied Health Professionals to attain degree level qualifications and their clinical competencies, I am involved in a range of initiatives to look at raising the evidence base for practice and ensuring career pathways for AHPs reflects the need for research participation.

My own area of research focuses on chronic wounds, having worked at the Wound Healing Research Unit in the School of Medicine at Cardiff University for 15 years.  This work has been very broad including UK and international level multi-centre Randomised Clinical Trials through to reviews of service burden, health economics and patient outcomes particularly patient experience and quality of life.  Issues of particular interest include the provision of AHPs to support the move to primary care support, and the maintenance of healthy independent living particularly into older ages, as well as disfigurement and appearance issues for those with major scars or amputations.

Within Cardiff University, I sit on a number of university level committees including those related to Academic Standards and Quality Assurance, Learning and Teaching, and Strategy Planning and Resources, as well as the Academic Promotions Panel.  I also sit on the Vice Chancellor’s Advisory Committee and the School Strategic Planning Group, as well participate in the Consistency in Assessment Matters project.

I am currently the Chair of the Patient Outcome Group for the European Wound Management Association and Secretary to the organisation, working closely with EucoMed for the development of new device technologies for this patient group – as well as the European Patient Forum.  I am also Chair of Cardiff Institute of Tissue Engineering and Repair, and well as Chair of the Steering Group for the All Wales Rehabilitation Network.

I have supervised 17 MD/PhD students to successful completion, published over 130 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters; I am a reviewer for a range of grant awarding bodies including HTA, NISCHR, NETSCC and RfPB..
