Title of Project: Pedal Power - Does participation in adapted dynamic cycling affect lower limb muscle function, activity levels, and quality of life of children with Cerebral Palsy?
Aims of Project:   To evaluate the effects of ADC participation on lower limb muscle function, activity levels, and quality of life for children with Cerebral Palsy.

2006-2009:

Title of Project:  A pilot study to explore views on family centeredness in community paediatric services.

Principal Research Question:
How ‘family centred’ do staff and parents perceive their work with disabled children and young people?

Aims of Project:

  1. To determine the staff self evaluation of ‘family centred’ service provision in organisations that provide services to disabled children, young people and their families.
  2. To explore staff views on self assessment measures of their performance by discussion in a focus group.
  3. To explore parental views of ‘family centred’ provision by interview or focus group.
  4. To identify any areas where staff feel they would benefit from further training to improve their ‘family centred’ service provision.

Representation from the interdisciplinary team of staff was invited by letter to attend a focus group at the centre they worked in. Following these parents of disabled children were invited to take part in an individual interview. This work has now been published.
