Prof Robert van Deursen

Teaching Interests

My main area of teaching is in biomechanics and movement analysis applied to rehabilitation patients. I teach an undergraduate course in biomechanics and MSc modules in clinical kinaesiology in Cardiff, an MSc module in Biomechanics in Zürich, Switzerland and regularly deliver invited lectures in the UK and continental Europe in the area of biomechanics and its clinical application.

Scientific and Professional Service

I am regular reviewer for several international journals including the Journal of Biomechanics and Clinical Biomechanics and reviews nationally and internationally for various grant agencies.

I was a member of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot chaired by Prof. Peter Cavanagh. The working group produced clinical guidelines for the Consultative Section of the International Diabetes Federation which was presented and agreed at the 5th International Symposium on the Diabetic Foot held in Noordwijkerhout, the Netherlands in May 2007. The guidelines are now part of the updated (2007) “International Consensus on the Diabetic Foot” and “Practical Guidelines on the Management and Prevention of the Diabetic Foot”.

I have recently become a member of the Executive Council of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) and am responsible for the education portfolio in preparation for the ISB conference in 2009.
