Gareth is on the executive committee of the Cardiff Node of the NCRM.

Gareth was the director of the ESRC Teaching and Learning Research Programme Research Capacity Building Network. His research interests include lifelong learning and the learning society, vocational education and training and economic development, devolution and the governance of education and training and political economy of educational research.
