Speakers: 

  • Emma Clavering & Janice McLaughlin (PEALS, Newcastle) Visualising Genetics: Modes of diagnosis and interpretation in the troubling body within paediatric genetics

Drawing on an ethnographic study of children who are referred to paediatric genetics, this paper will examine the varied ways in which their genetic makeup is visualised through the diagnostic process. The focus will be on ways in which such visualisations are produced and made sense of from within social, cultural and medical repertoires.
