Funding and Studentships
There are a variety of sources of support available for full-time research students. These include grants from the UK Research Councils (ESRC) and from the Welsh Office.
ESRC Postgraduate Studentships
The School will support applications by UK students for the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) 1+3 and +3 routes. The 1+3 route consists of the first year spent completing a MSc in Research Methods (see MSc Social Science Research Methods) followed by three years (the +3 period) spent completing out the PhD.
The School has ESRC and quota recognition for the fields of:
- Education
- Social Policy
- Social Work
- Sociology
- Socio-legal studies
The School also has validation for Open Competition Awards for the above and following Pathway:
- Science, Technology and Innovation Studies
Cardiff School of Social Sciences has an excellent track record for winning studentships.
