Career Profile
I studied Mathematics for my first degree, during which I became interested in the sociology of sex, gender, and sexuality, particularly their regulation by legal and medical institutions. This led to a Masters in Sociology, where I carried out research into parents’ understandings of their children’s gender socialisation. I moved into health research as a research associate for Picker Institute Europe, where I worked on a national patient experience survey of A&E patients. Working in health research showed me the vital role of communication in carrying out translational research.
At DECIPHer, I am responsible for communicating the Centre’s work to both academic and non-academic audiences, using media including the DECIPHer website, blog and Twitter account (@DECIPHerCentre).
