Dr Xiaodong Lin
Career Profile
Xiaodong is a social scientist with an inter-disciplinary background, across Sociology, Cultural Studies and International Political Economy. Prior to joining the team in Cardiff, he taught Sociology and Cultural Studies at Aston University and the University of Birmingham. Xiaodong is committed to inter-disciplinary research, with a particular interest in social issues in China, as a global rising power. His main research area is on gender and migration, with a specific focus on class-based male migrant workers and their shifting masculine identities in urban China. His most recent study critically examines male identity formation and well-being within family life and the work place in urban China. He is currently working on a project, exploring a younger generation of Chinese urban workers, addressing issues of risk, well-being, social sustainability and sustainable place.
