Research on Transnationalism

A key strength among historians at Cardiff is transnationalism in modern society, with researchers addressing a range of themes, from ethnic Chinese communities in Europe, and links between Southeast Asia and Australia, to the Welsh diaspora in Australia and the wider world. Colleagues also explore transnational movements, and the reception and use of planned languages in modern Japan. South Asian studies represents an important area of this research, with research covering the political and social history of the British Raj, gender relations and women's contributions in the nationalist movement in India; law, state and society in modern India; female crime in India; and communism in China.
