Research in Ancient History focuses on the social, political and military history of the ancient world from Archaic Greece to Late Antiquity; themes which run through our work include warfare; religion; issues of identity, especially ethnicity, gender and sexuality; medicine and the body; and the interpretation of epigraphic, visual and archaeological evidence. Our research benefits from contact and collaboration with colleagues in the School working on classical archaeology, medieval history and religious studies, and with the Departments of Classics and Ancient History in Swansea and Lampeter.
