The Ancient History Department's research interests focus on the social and political history of the ancient world from Archaic Greece to Late Antiquity; themes which run through our work include warfare, religion, issues of identity, especially ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and the interpretation of epigraphic, visual and archaeological evidence. Our research benefits from close contact and collaboration with colleagues in the School working on classical archaeology, medieval history and religious studies, and with the Departments of Classics and Ancient History in Swansea and Lampeter.
