Rhodri Morgan was the First Minister for Wales from 2000-2009. He was Assembly Member for Cardiff West from 1999-2011 and is the longest serving First Minister to date.
He was educated at St John’s College Oxford and Harvard University. After working as an Industrial Development Office for South Glamorgan County Council from 1974 to 1980 he became Head of the European Community’s Office in Wales. Elected Labour Member of Parliament for Cardiff West in 1987, he held a series of Opposition Front Bench posts covering, in turn, the Environment, Energy, and Welsh Affairs, before returning to Cardiff. He is now Distinguished Professor in the School Of Law and European Languages at Cardiff University.
