Religious & Theological Studies (Single Honours) (BA)
UCAS Code: V603BA/RTSDegree Structure and Modules
Our BA degree programme is built around a system of credits. For an Honours Degree you have to gain 360 credits over three years of study (or four if you are taking a modern language as part of a Joint Honours degree). Thus, you have to study for 120 credits in each year. Your learning will be organised into course modules. In this Department we work with double modules, which are worth 20 credits each.
Year One
During your first year, you will study for 80 credits (i.e. four double modules) in this Department. The remaining 40 credits may be taken in another subject. All first year students have the opportunity to study something other than their degree subject.
You will study a combination of the following modules (each worth 40 credits). These are:
- Religious Studies
- Theological Studies
- Elementary Greek
- Elementary Hebrew
- Elementary Sanskrit
The combinations open to you are as follows:
- Religious Studies (40 credits) and Theological Studies (40 credits)
- Religious Studies (40 credits) and a Language (40 credits)
- Theological Studies (40 credits) and a Language (40 credits)
Years Two and Three
In your second and third years you will study for a total of 240 credits. You have considerable freedom of choice from a very broad menu of courses, which is one of the attractions of the Cardiff scheme. Many students use it to gain a wide knowledge encompassing several religious traditions. Others prefer a more focused approach specialising in certain areas.
See this course on the University's Coursefinder website.
