Enrolment for Year 1 Archaeology and Conservation

Welcome to the Cardiff School of History, Archaeology and Religion! These notes are intended as a general guide to the enrolment process. You will receive more detailed advice from your tutors when you come to Cardiff, but if you have problems understanding these instructions, please contact the Archaeology Administrator, Mrs Sarah Tovey, either by emailing ToveyS1@cardiff.ac.uk, by phoning (029) 2087 4259, or by calling into the School Office (room 4.54 in the Humanities Building).

Enrolment programme

| 10.00– | See your Personal Tutor to discuss your subject options. You will find your Tutor's name and room number on the list posted on the Year One notice board, which is outside room 4.18 on the fourth floor of the Humanities Building. | |
| Wednesday 26 September | 9.00–12.00 | Enrol for your third subject. Bring some passport photos of yourself, and a printout of the Humanities Year 1 Enrolment Proforma. Details of which rooms to visit for other subjects will be posted in the lobby of the Humanities Building and available online at: http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/humss/resources/welcome11.pdf. |

Structure of Year 1 in Archaeology and Conservation
All students take modules to the value of 120 credits. For full details of the Year 1 modules in each degree programme, follow the links at the bottom of the page.
If you are taking BA or BSc Archaeology, you will take 40 credits in Archaeology A, 40 credits in Archaeology B, and 40 credits in a third subject. For your third subject you can choose any of the subjects listed in the Humanities and Social Studies Year 1 Enrolment and Subject Guide. Note that you will have to check for timetable clashes, that some subjects have specific entrance requirements, and that some have restricted numbers of places. Archaeology A is in Timetable Group F, and Archaology B is in Timetable Group H. You will not be able to take any other subject in the same group, as the classes will clash with classes in Archaeology. Your personal tutor will help you to select a suitable subject.
If you are taking BSc Conservation, you will take 80 credits of Conservation modules and 40 credits from either Archaeology A or B.
If you are taking a joint BA in Archaeology with another subject, you will take 40 credits in Archaeology A, 40 credits in your other degree subject, and 40 credits in a third subject, chosen from the list of subjects in the Humanities and Social Studies Year 1 Enrolment and Subject Guide. You may be able to take Archaeology B as your third subject, if sufficient places are available, or additional credits in your other degree subject. Note that you will have to check for timetable clashes, that some subjects have specific entrance requirements, and that some have restricted numbers of places. Archaeology A is in Timetable Group F. You will not be able to take any other subject in the same group, as the classes will clash with classes in Archaeology. Your personal tutor will help you to select a suitable subject.
Joint Honours with Archaeology
If you are taking Archaeology with History, French, German or Italian, Archaeology is your Home Department. Please follow the instructions on this page. You should enrol for the modules in your other degree subject on Wednesday afternoon, before enrolling for the Archaeology modules.
If you are taking any other joint degree, Archaeology is not your Home Department. Please follow the instructions supplied by your home department. You should come to enrol for your Archaeology modules on Wednesday afternoon, before enrolling for your other degree subject.
You will have a Personal Tutor in both of your degree subjects, but on Tuesday morning you should go to the tutor in your home department.
