Approaches to the History of Medieval Britain - 30 credits (HST911)

This module is designed to introduce students to the range of source materials available for the study of Medieval Britain and to some of the approaches adopted by historians in dealing with them. It aims to deepen their understanding of how historical knowledge and understanding is derived and constructed, how sources can be read and interpreted, and equips them with a range of skills to undertake original research including the nature of researching Medieval Britain and how questions are constructed. The module will develop students’ abilities at interrogating and critiquing a range of sources and approaches and in interpreting and assessing the written work of others, allowing them to use sources and approaches confidently and effectively.
