Cardiff University Archaeology Society
Cardiff University Archaeology Society is the student-run society for archaeology students, or anyone with an interest in archaeology. The archaeology department holds weekly Thursday evening talks with special guest lecturers followed by drinks in the Pen and Wig pub in Cathays which we regularly attend. It’s a great opportunity to get to know other students on the course and to have informal meetings outside of lectures with your fellow students.
The Archaeology Society also runs socials for students, with dressing-up themes, games, competitions and prizes. We’ve had for example a Historical Zombie Halloween night together with the Ancient History Society; a Nativity themed Christmas social; played human scrabble; gone for meals at a local curry restaurant; and dressed up as Indiana Jones and Lara Croft!.
We also aim to offer educational trips to current students at Cardiff, as we don’t just care about drinking! In previous years the society has taken students to Manchester to see the exciting new Lindow Man exhibition and had a private talk with its creator, and camped at the Gower. And we have plenty more plans for the future. This year we are planning a to take a group of students on an overnight trip to London to visit the British Museum, and days trips to local archaeological attractions like St Fagans.
