Sustainable mobility

The automotive industry is at the front line of sustainability issues through the environmental impacts of car production and use, and the social and economic importance of the automotive industry.

Research carried out within the BRASS Research Centre over the last decade has explored new approaches to car technology and production to both be more environmentally benign and more economically sustainable. It also sought to explore issues of infrastructure, economics and consumer behaviour in a transition towards more sustainable forms of personal mobility.

Within the new BRASS Research Unit, research will be continued on business models, centres of automobility and electric mobility. Particularly in the latter, a pioneering role is being played at Cardiff in widening the debate on barriers to electric mobility beyond aspects of technical change to include the social, political, regulatory and psychological.
