Natalie joined the Sustainable Places Research Institute as a Research Associate in November 2013 after previously working within the commercial sector.

Natalie's research involves ecosystem goods and services and valuation modelling, with a focus on the valuation of cultural ecosystem services.  This involves exploring both monetary and non-monetary methods and the interface between them.

Natalie's other key research interest is spatial representation of environmental information, including ecosystem services, using a variety of GIS models and processes. Natalie has an extensive technical background in multiple types of spatial analysis, using a variety of GIS software.

Current Research

Natalie's research focuses on the valuation of cultural ecosystem services provided by upland freshwater ecosystems.  The research can be split into three parts:

  1. To explore both the monetary and non-monetary valuation perspective for cultural ecosystem services.
  2. To understand the relationship between riparian land cover and land use and the effect on river biota and subsequent cultural ecosystem services delivered by freshwater ecosystems.
  3. Land use change scenarios on freshwater ecosystems.
