Understanding the brain in health and disease has never been more important.

One in four adults in the UK experience some form of mental health problem and around 10% of children. There are currently more than 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK and that number is forecast to rise rapidly as the population ages.

Cardiff University is already a world-leader in neuroscience and mental health research. Cardiff scientists played a major role in the identification of the genetic origins of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. In total, over 108 neuroscientists and researchers from across Cardiff University work in neuroscience and mental health research.

The Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute takes our research to the next level and will help deliver new insights into all areas of mental illness from childhood to old-age. Researchers from across the University will develop new programmes of neuroscience research and create a greater understanding and diagnosis of mental illness.

Additional investment will provide crucial support for cutting-edge research and see new therapies translated from the laboratory bench to the hospital bedside. If you would like to learn more about how you can help support us or other sponsorship opportunities please contact Development and Alumni Relations.
