Travelling Scholarships

Applications from Cardiff University students are invited for the following scholarships:

  • Charles Coles Travelling Scholarship (two scholarships of £400);
  • Edward Loveluck Travelling Scholarship (one scholarship of £300* open to students in the Welsh School of Architecture and the School of City and Regional Planning only. *The award will be increased to £600 from the School funds if the successful candidate is based in the School of City and Regional Planning ).

What can the scholarships be used for?

  • These scholarships present an excellent opportunity for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to undertake academic study, clearly associated with their chosen programme of study at Cardiff, in a country where the student is not indigenous, in order to gain valuable programme related experience.
  • The scholarships can be used to fund a visit or travel that demonstrates a high level of participation by the student.  The successful applicant will be responsible for making all arrangements for the foreign visit.  Visits arranged wholly or partly by a student’s school will not be considered.
  • These scholarships may not be used to fund field trips or to fund visits to conferences where student participation is limited.  Students should seek alternative sources of funding for such events.

Who can apply?

  • Undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study may apply to travel during the summer recess.  If the programme of study involves a year away from University on industrial placement or year abroad, students can apply in the year preceding, or on return from, the year out.
  • Postgraduate students can apply at any point during their programme but the application must be submitted well in advance of the proposed visit and may be considered in the calendar year preceding travel.  Travel must also be scheduled at an appropriate point during the programme of study.

When should applications be submitted?

  • Application forms must be submitted to Head of School by no later than Tuesday February 28th 2012.

Where can I get an application pack?

  • Access the application forms from the right hand side of this screen, which you can download and complete either by hand or electronically.

How will I know if my application has been successful?

  • Your Head of School will complete Section B of the application form and submit it to Registry, for onward transmission to the Standing Panel of Senate (Awards and Scholarships).
  • The Standing Panel of Senate (Awards and Scholarships) will consider all applications and applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by the Registry in May 2012.
  • Please ensure that you print and read the conditions of award governing the scholarship which you are applying for before completing your application form.

If your application is successful you will be required to submit a report (of a minimum of 1,000 and maximum of 1,500 words) of your visit to the Standing Panel of Senate (Awards and Scholarships). A copy of the report will be made available to your Head of School.
