Withdrawal From University (Undergraduates)

Registry must be informed as soon as you have decided to permanently withdraw from the University. All students are advised to discuss withdrawal with their personal tutor and/or the Student Advisory Service before taking a final decision. If you are an international student on a student visa, withdrawal from your programme of study will affect your immigration status. Periods of temporary withdrawal may be organised via interruption of studies.

What should I do when I have decided to withdraw from University?

Having discussed the possibility of withdrawal with your School and the Student Advisory Service and decided to withdraw permanently from the University, you must notify Registry of your intention.

You may do this by:

online through SIMS Online at http://mwe.cf.ac.uk or, if you do not have internet access by completing the form available in Related Resources.

The form or letter must be brought to your School in person, or sent by post, as soon as practicable after you have made the decision to withdraw permanently.

Who should I formally notify of my withdrawal?

Registry will automatically notify all interested academic and administrative divisions of the University, your sponsor (if appropriate), the United Kingdom Borders Agency (if necessary) and the Student Loans Company (if necessary) of your withdrawal within seven days of receipt of the Notification of Withdrawal Form or other written notification.

However your School should already be aware of your intention to withdraw from your preliminary discussions.

If you are resident in University owned accommodation you should also comply with any contractual obligations regarding surrender of the room.

Who will inform my sponsor of my withdrawal?

Registry will automatically notify your sponsor or permanent withdrawal from the University (specifying the date you last attended the program of study for which you were registered) within ten days of receipt of your withdrawal notification. Details of transfer to another institution will be included, if appropriate.

You are advised that there may be serious financial implications to your withdrawal.

What if I have more questions?

Further guidance on these procedures may be obtained from Student Records, Registry (029 2087 6211 or StudentRecords@Cardiff.ac.uk).
