Politics

BA students intending to read for Joint Honours degrees in Politics must take two introductory Year One modules. These are PL9196 Introduction to  Political Thought (Semester 1) or the equivalent Welsh medium module PL9193 Y Da, Drwg a’r Gwleidyddol (Semester 1), and PL9199 Introduction to Government (Semester 2). The following modules are optional: PL9198 Introduction to European Integration (Semester 1); PL9197 Introduction to Globalisation (Semester 1); PL9195 Introduction to International Relations (Semester 2); and PL9194 Introduction to  Political Science (Semester 2).

BScEcon students intending to read for Joint Honours degrees in Politics must take three introductory Year One modules. Of these three, one must be PL9196 Introduction to Political  Thought (Semester 1) or the equivalent Welsh module PL9193 Y Da, Drwg a’r Gwleidyddol (Semester 1), and another must be PL9199 Introduction to Government (Semester 2). You must also choose one more from the following options: PL9198 Introduction to European Integration (Semester 1); PL9197 Introduction to Globalisation (Semester 1); PL9195 Introduction to International Relations (Semester 2); and PL9194 Introduction to Political Science (Semester 2).

BScEcon students intending to read for Single Honours degree in Politics must take four introductory Year One modules. These are PL9196 Introduction to Political Thought (Semester 1) or the equilavent Welsh medium module PL9193 Y Da, Drwg a’r Gwleidyddol (Semester 1), PL9198 Introduction to European Integration (Semester 1), PL9199 Introduction to Government (Semester 2) and PL9195 Introduction to International Relations (Semester 2). In addition you can also choose PL9197 Introduction to Globalisation (Semester 1) and/or PL9194 Introduction to  Political Science (Semester 2).

BScEcon International Relations and Politics and BScEcon International Relations and Politics (with a Language) students must take four introductory Year One modules. These are PL9196 Introduction to Political Thought (Semester 1) or the equivalent Welsh medium module PL9193 Y Da, Drwg a’r Gwleidyddol (Semester 1), PL9199 Introduction to Government (Semester 2), PL9198 Introduction to European Integration (Semester 1) and PL9195 Introduction to International Relations (Semester 2). In addition you can also choose PL9197 Introduction to Globalisation (Semester 1) and/or PL9194 Introduction to  Political Science (Semester 2).

N.B. For students studying Politics, there are no special entry requirements other than the need for three good A level grades. BA or BScEcon students intending to study other degree programmes in the second and final years but who wish to take Politics in year one must have a good A level (normally a B) in a relevant subject e.g. History, Law or Economics.
