This page details some of the activities that involve staff from the Regeneration Institute.

Cardiff Steel Research Programme
The Cardiff Steel Research Programme brings together a range of research projects about the steel industry. This programme of research began in 2000 and is led by Professor Peter Fairbrother (Centre for Global Labour Research) and Dr Dean Stroud (Regenerations Institute). 

 

‘Heads of the Valleys 2034’ - Institute of Welsh Affairs Seminar [28.4 Kb]

On 7th March 2008, the Regeneration Institute hosted an Institute of Welsh Affairs seminar titled, ‘Heads of the Valleys 2034’, to bring together key policy experts to discuss how: ‘The question now is: how can we make a psychological breakthrough to enable people to envisage a different but viable future for the Heads of the Valleys?


North Cornelly School Visit to SOCSI [6.5 Kb]

30 year 6 children, their teacher and a classroom assistant from Afon-y-Felin Primary School in North Cornelly descended on the Glamorgan building on Friday 30th November 2007 as part of outreach work organised by the Regeneration Institute and widening access scheme initiated by the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University.


Visitors

William Peterman is an emeritus professor of geography at Chicago State University, where he was the director of the Fredrick Blum Neighborhood Assistance Center from 1995 to 2003. Prior to that he was the Founding Director of the Nathalie Voorhees Center for Neighborhood and Community Improvement at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Policy. Both the Blum and Voorhees Centers provide research and technical support to Chicago area community organizations using University resources and involving faculty and students in community controlled projects. Professor Peterman was a senior Fulbright fellow at the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2001 and since 2004 has been a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies, the University of Bristol.

Bill will be visiting the Regeneration Institute on Wednesday 12th November and is keen to talk to colleagues about slot about planning, advocacy planning, and University Community partnerships in the U.S.
The Regeneration Institute will be hosting a lunch on the day and then Bill will be available for the rest of the afternoon, before giving a seminar at 5pm in the Glamorgan Building. If you would like to attend the lunch or are keen to meet Bill, please contact Becca Edwards on EdwardsRS1@cf.ac.uk.
