Our research has global impact, and its quality is consistently proven by our performance in national assessments.
In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) 90% of our research was confirmed as world-leading or internationally excellent making us a top 20 university in the UK for the overall quality of our research.
Our focus was on breadth, depth and quality which has been rewarded with us achieving 14th in the UK for research power.
Our submissions across 23 of the 34 Units of Assessment reflect our innovative and interdisciplinary research, ranging from Clinical Medicine to Law to Engineering to Music.
This builds on a strong tradition of research excellence as our performance in both REF 2014 and the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise highlights.
