Cardiff Ventures: 14th October 2011
The successful commercial exploitation of Cardiff University’s research and the entrepreneurial flair of its students were in the spotlight at the first Cardiff Ventures Conference.
The event attracted over 115 delegates both from existing companies and those who were considering establishing a start-up or a University spin-out, offering a forum to share good practice and the opportunity to network with people who have been through the process themselves – in some cases, on more than one occasion.
Through a series of presentations, delegates heard about the challenges that successful entrepreneurs in a range of fields had faced and overcome when starting up their businesses. More targeted workshops offered advice and guidance on issues including protecting intellectual property and the importance of a sales and marketing strategy.
The Conference also saw Cllr Neil McEvoy, Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council, launch Capital Cardiff 2012 and outline plans for the re-development of Cardiff Business Technology Centre into a modern, purpose built Innovation Centre offering first class facilities for start up and early stage businesses.
“I found the conference really interesting, the speakers were all excellent”
Dave Ball, Welsh Government
“It has been a great event. The talks were informative and interesting”
Rafal Jennek, Cardiff University
