Innovation Challenge 2012
Win £1000 | 7 days & a mystery object | Innovation Challenge
Societies and AU Teams are being urged to enter a team into this year’s Innovation Challenge for a chance to win BIG CASH PRIZES (including the big £1000). Each participating team is given a mystery object and asked to create as much ‘value’ from it as possible e.g. artistically, financially or by having a social or community value. Your ideas are submitted in the format of a short 3 minute video and the winners are selected by a panel of experienced judges.
The Innovation Challenge is organised and sponsored by Cardiff University Enterprise in association with the Societies Elected Officer and Athletic Union President. The Challenge is open to teams of students from all Societies and AU Clubs in the Cardiff University Students’ Union.

How does it work?
Step 1: Form a Team.
Create a team from within a society or AU club. You can have 2-200 people on your team, the choice is yours!
Step 2: Innovate and Add Value.
Teams are challenged to use their ingenuity and creativity in creating ‘value’ for the same object over a period of a week. In previous years teams have demonstrated ‘value’ in many different ways, for example:
- Financially by creating revenue from the object
- Creatively by developing an innovative or artistic idea
- Community-related by developing an idea that has community benefits
- Environmentally by developing an idea that has environmental benefits
Step 3: Create a Video
Once you have an idea that adds value you then need to create a video. It does not matter if you use your phone, a digital camera or high-end AV equipment, the production quality will not be judged. It is the value in the idea that counts.
All videos are to be uploaded to You Tube alongside a simple blog entry explaining your idea.
Step 4: Sit back, and enjoy the Award Ceremony.
An award ceremony will be held once the judges have made their final decisions. All are invited to attend the event where you will see some choice entries, hear from an inspirational speaker and find out who has won. (There will also be other prizes up for grabs!)

- It'll give you all a chance to get to know each other a bit better.
- Previous participants have found the process fun and rewarding.
- What club or society couldn’t do with an extra £1,000?!
When trying to get a team together, why not show them some of the previously uploaded videos to see what ideas have come up in the past, it really can be anything –
What teams have said in the past:
“It brought our society together and created an opportunity for others to get involved”
“We made good friends, had a lot of fun doing it! And the finished product has made a lot of people smile!”
