Progenteq Spin-Out From BIOSI
A new Cardiff University Spin-out company has been formed under the Fusion IP model, based on the work of Professor Charlie Archer (School of Biosciences). Prof Archer and the connective tissue biology group have developed innovative approaches for cartilage repair. This exciting development involved the identification and isolation of a defined cell population in knee cartilage, with these cells shown to possess stem-cell-like properties. These pluripotent cells provide a promising therapeutic which may be isolated from donors and inserted into suitable patients to restore cartilage function in joints.
Progenteq will be working with renowned Bio-Pharma company Angel Biotechnology based in Edinburgh. Angel have considerable experience in cell therapy and the use of stem cells.
Dr Dominic Griffiths of Fusion IP and director of Progenteq commented:
"We are tremendously excited by the prospect of this novel cell therapy. Angel is well placed to assist the company in its product development activities and we look forward to working with them as we progress Progenteq towards the clinic".
