EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowships
As part of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s (EPSRC) Doctoral Prize initiative Cardiff University is funding two 24 month Research Associate posts.
The Doctoral Prize is intended to develop the very best EPSRC supported students beyond the end of their PhD and provide the first step to becoming independent researchers. Applicants are invited to propose a novel research project in an area which fits within the EPSRC’s funding remit and are expected to demonstrate independence from their PhD supervisor. (http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/research/ourportfolio/researchareas/Pages/researchareas.aspx)
Eligible applicants must have received support from the EPSRC for their PhD studies (either as stipend or fees, or both) and will be expected to pass their viva before starting the post. These research posts are aimed at those who have recently completed their PhD.
The Doctoral Prize is the first step in helping to develop independent researchers and applicants are encouraged to move into new areas of research and demonstrate the ability to work independently from their former supervisors. Applicants are expected to approach an academic member of staff in Cardiff University who they wish to support their application. This person should NOT be their PhD supervisor. Subject to agreement, this staff member will become the academic mentor and will be expected to host the researcher within their lab/office. The academic mentor will work with the applicant to develop the project and ensure that sufficient consumables and travel are allocated to the project.
External students who have not carried out their PhD studies at Cardiff University are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications will be evaluated against the standard EPSRC postdoctoral assessment criteria as shown in Appendix 1.
The host School will provide applicants with the necessary support and guidance to complete the application form.
Applicants should send an electronic CV and completed application form through the University’s E-recruitment website (http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/jobs/)
The deadline for receipt of applications is 5pm on Wednesday 16th of July 2014. Applications received after this time will NOT be considered.
