This is the home of the Social
Identity and Social Action in Wales (SISAW)
research group, based at the School of Psychology, Cardiff
University.
As part of the E.S.R.C.’s Identities
and Social Action research programme, we investigate the social
psychology of national identity in Wales.
We focus on the different ways in which national
identity can be defined in Wales, and what types of (political)
action these different definitions might lead
to. Of particular interest is how different definitions of
national identity produce group-based
emotions (e.g., anger; pride; happiness),
and how these emotions in turn help to explain support for
different courses of action. We also examine how group-based
emotions can themselves affect national and other identities.
