Drug Discovery: from best science to commercial development
Cardiff University has world-leading activity in drug discovery as evidenced by recent RAE success in the area and notable commercial exploitation. In tapping the University’s cross-school and cross-centre activity to effectively translate our best science towards commercial development, we will expose the best postgraduates to World-leading highly commercially relevant work.

Drug discovery and development remains a long, high-risk and expensive process. The work is intensely challenging, at the limits of human knowledge and perhaps more interdisciplinary than any other human endeavour. Academia are playing an increasing role in early drug discovery and increasingly big Pharma are looking to academia to innovate and derisk new targets and new approaches.
The industry seeks to recruit team players capable of thinking in a cross-disciplinary manner: In offering a number of cross-school projects in highly topical areas of drug discovery and development we will train students for this challenge.
