Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014

The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the new process for assessing research in UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and is the successor to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) .

Management of the implementation of Cardiff’s 2014 REF strategy will use established university processes with line-management through the university’s normal channels, from Vice Chancellor to Heads of School, who are in turn responsible for the staff within their schools.

As with previous exercises, the co-ordination of the operational support for the REF submission will be managed through the Planning Division.

Preparation and implementation of the strategy will delegated to the REF sub-group of the University’s Research Committee.The chair of the REF sub-group is Professor Hywel Thomas.  The sub-group will recommend matters of policy to Research Committee and will also report directly to the Vice-Chancellor.
