Trace amine receptor distribution and pharmacology

Currently two projects are on-going to investigate the functions of trace amines in peripheral blood vessels from rats, guinea-pigs and pigs and to determine the receptor expression profile of these tissues.

Aims of Project

We have obtained interesting data showing that a variety of trace amines produce responses probably mediated by trace amine-associated receptors and that there are marked species differences in the activity of the trace amines tested. A detailed investigation of receptor distribution is now under way.

A separate project will look for trace amine receptor antagonists as none are known currently extracted from plant material from the Phillippines.

All these projects are important as our findings suggest that trace amines may have a variety of effects on the cardiovascular system which could be deleterious.
