Research

Research in the Cardiff School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences currently encompasses aspects of all facets of the study of drugs, including: the discovery of new potential drug entities, using synthetic chemistry; formulation of drugs to achieve targeted responses; pharmacological studies of mechanisms of drug action; as well as researching elements of current medical and pharmaceutical practice.

The School's four research disciplines represent the resource platform for the maintenance and technical support of clusters of specialised equipment and facilities shared on a pooled basis throughout the school. Although staff are located within a specific discipline, much of the research is cross disciplinary and often involves collaboration with other groups within the University and elsewhere.

Medicinal Chemistry

Medicinal Chemistry

Designing and synthesising novel active compounds as drug candidates.

Drug Delivery & Microbiology

Drug Delivery and Microbiology

Understanding the nature of biological barriers and developing advanced systems to improve the delivery of therapeutics.
Understanding microbial survival strategies, microbial contamination of pharmaceutical products, control of microbial infection in healthcare environments.

Pharmacology & Physiology

Pharmacology & Physiology

Understanding of physiological regulation and disease processes, identifying and validating novel drug targets, and mechanisms of drug action.

Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Pharmacy

Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy

Informing and influencing the practice of pharmacy and the development of policy around medicines usage and approval.

Public Engagement

Enhancing public understanding of science and stimulating public debate through active collaborative involvement.

Research User Engagement

Delivering the wider benefits of our research to the UK economy and society, through funding, licensing and spinout companies.

Research Office

Developing and implementing the School's research strategy and policies. Supporting and facilitating pre- and post-award research activities for staff and postgraduate research students. Providing support to the Research Committee.
