Professional Development of Pharmacy Practitioners – Consultation Skills
Our strong focus on developing the capability and skills of pharmacy professional staff through our numerous postgraduate programmes provides opportunities and expertise for conducting research and scholarly activity to enhance the role of the pharmacist in patient care. Dr Delyth James at Cardiff University (in collaboration with King’s College, London) has designed a framework for teaching and assessing the consultation skills of pharmacy practitioners. The medication-related consultation framework (MRCF) has recently been adopted throughout the UK as one of the key tools for developing effective consultation skills in order to support adherence to medication and optimise patient safety. It has also been translated into Welsh to help guide consultations with patients who wish to communicate with patients through the medium of Welsh (members of the Welsh language research team are: Dr Delyth James, Dr Louise Hughes, Elen Jones & Dr Arwyn Davies).
