“Small molecule epigenetic intervention of disease” 

Matthew Fuchter obtained his first class honours degree in Chemistry (MSci) from the University of Bristol in 2002, where he was awarded the Richard N. Dixon prize. In January 2006 he completed his PhD research under the supervision of Professor A. G. M. Barrett, FRS FMedSci at Imperial College London. Following a short spell as a Research Associate at Imperial College, he was appointed as a CSIRO Research Fellow at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Australia as well as a visiting fellow at the University of Melbourne, where he worked with Professor A. B Holmes, FRS. From August 2007 he was the RCUK Academic Fellow in Cancer Medicinal Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, and in July 2008 he was appointed as a Lecturer in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry at Imperial College London. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in July 2012. 

Since joining Imperial, he has been heavily involved in building translational activities between the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Medicine. Indeed, in addition to his Senior Lectureship, he is co--‐Director of an MRes course in Drug Discovery, a Managerial Board member and Senior Investigator of an Imperial anti--‐cancer drug discovery group (CD3) and a Research Board member of the Institute of Chemical Biology. 

The key aim of the Fuchter Group is to use expertise in chemical synthesis to impact molecular science in chemistry, biology and materials. A central area within this broad them is small molecule intervention of epigenetic pathways, which will be discussed in his talk.
