Overview

Research Overview

My main research interests are in ocular imaging, anterior eye, contact lenses, and myopia control. I undertook my postgraduate research at Cardiff University, submitting my thesis entitled ‘An in vivo investigation of choroidal vasculature in age-related macular degeneration’ in May 2017. This work was centered around the use of artificial intelligence to detect and classify this condition from 3-D OCT scans of the back of the eye. As a qualified optometrist, my research has a strong clinical focus, and I work with collaborators in both acamedia and industry on several projects.

Teaching Overview

I lead the 3rd year undergraduate module on Low Vision and Contact Lenses, delivering lectures and other learning materials, as well as supervising 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate contact lens clinics. I started the Myopia Control clinic at the University, fitting children with specialised contact lenses aimed at slowing down the progression of myopia (short-sightedness). I also teach on multiple postgraduate clinical modules with WOPEC, including Contact Lenses and Tear Film Disorders. I am recognised as an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
