I undertook my postgraduate research at Cardiff University, submitting my thesis entitled ‘An in vivo investigation of choroidal vasculature in age-related macular degeneration’ in May 2017. My particular research interest is in using artificial intelligence to detect and classify this condition from 3-D OCT scans of the back of the eye. As a qualified optometrist, part of my research included recruiting and examining patients diagnosed with macular degeneration, from clinics at the University Hospital of Wales. I now lecture 3rd year undergraduate students on contact lenses and low vision, and supervise students on several 2nd and 3rd year clinical modules.
