I work in the fields of critical management studies and organisation theory, focusing especially on critical realist philosophy and management knowledge. My work in this area has been published in some of the leading international journals, including the British Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies (another here), Human Relations, Management Learning, Organization, and the International Journal of Management Reviews. I have edited special issues on these topics in management and philosophy journals and contributed several chapters to hand-books and edited collections. I have two books, both with Oxford University Press: an edited collection on Researching Organizations using Critical Realism, and a textbook on Management Consulting

I teach a variety of management courses from a critical perspective. I have been lucky enough to win three University ‘teaching excellence’ prizes, and a ‘Highly Commended’ award from the British Academy of Management.

My industry background (in consulting and telecoms, as well as a start-up company) has helped in a number of engagements with businesses – which has been recognised through being awarded the first academic Fellowship for the International Council of Management Consultancy Institutes, and Academic Fellowships with the CMI and CIPD. I am also a Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management, following my ESRC funded research on management innovation.
