Overview

I am a Senior Lecturer in the School of Computer Science and Informatics. I am a member of the Visual Computing Research Section, and lead the Geometric Computing and Graphics Research Group. I work on 3D geometry processing and its application, such as freeform architectural design, digital fabrication, and human face modelling. I also work on numerical algorithms, especially on large-scale optimization for geometry processing and physical simulation.

Before coming to Cardiff, I worked as a Lecturer in computer science at the University of Hull between 2015 and 2017. From 2012 to 2015, I was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Computer Graphics and Geometry Laboratory at EPFL, working with Mark Pauly. I obtained my PhD in Technical Mathematics from Vienna University of Technology in 2011, under the supervision of Helmut Pottmann. I received my master's degree in Computer Science and bachelor's degree in Computer Software in 2008 and 2005 respectively, both from Tsinghua University.

In summer 2018, I was a Visiting Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, hosted by the Graphics & Geometric Computing Laboratory.

Research

My primary research interest is in the analysis and processing of 3D geometry, including:

  • Computational design tools for freeform architecture and digital fabrication
  • 3D data processing techniques, such as denoising, filtering, and registration
  • Human face modelling and recognition using RGB and RGB-D images
  • Efficient numerical algorithms for 3D geometry processing and physical simulation

My work has been published in top venus for visual computing, including ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM SIGGRAPH Asia, IEEE TIP, and IEEE TPAMI. I am a recipient of the Best Paper Award at GMP 2019.

Source codes for my research work are released on my github page.

I have served on the program committees of various international conferences, including:

  • Symposium on Solid and Physical Modeling (SPM): 2019/2020/2021/2022/2023
  • Advances in Architectural Geometry: 2016/2018/2020/2023

  • Pacific Graphics: 2018
  • International Conference on Geometric Modeling and Processing (GMP): 2018
  • Shape Modeling International (SMI): 2016

I served as an Associate Chair of GRAPP 2023 & 2024, and a Conference Program Chair of Pacific Graphics 2022.

In 2018, I was awarded a visiting professorship at the University of Science and Technology of China, to collaborate with the Graphics & Geometric Computing Laboratory.
