Professor and Hon. Consultant in Dental Public Health/Director Post Graduate Studies
Ivor Chestnutt is Professor and Hon. Consultant in Dental Public Health, and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies. He has been a broad remit covering research, teaching and dental public health practice.
Ivor Chestnutt is Professor in Dental Public Health at Cardiff University Dental School, Honorary Consultant to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and is registered as a Specialist in Dental Public Health. He is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh and received both his MPH and PhD degrees from the University of Glasgow. He holds Fellowships in dental surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Surgeons, England. Ivor is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Within the Dental School, he is Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies, is currently Head of Applied Clinical Research and Public Health and is a member of Cardiff and Vale Dental Clinical Board. He is also Associate Director of the multidisciplinary, Wales School for Primary Care Research.

Ivor Chestnutt leads teaching in Dental Public Health and teaches at all levels from Primary BDS to Intercollegiate Fellowship. As Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies he has responsibility for Postgraduate courses in the School of Dentistry and a specific remit for Postgraduate Taught Courses.
He has extensive experience as an External Examiner at Universities across the United Kingdom and has examined on behalf of all three UK Royal Colleges. He is a past Chair of the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Dental Public Health. He is Specialty Advisor in Dental Public Health for Wales.
Ivor Chestnutt has wide experience in health services research, interests include:

* The role of the dental team in smoking cessation
* The delivery of dental care in general dental practice
* The role of the internet in patient education
* The role of antibiotics in the management of acute dental conditions
* Modelling the provision of dental care in Wales
