Professor Alison Bullock
Professor - CUREMeDE
I welcome doctoral applications from those interested in working on multi-disciplinary topics related to my broad research activity in the education of healthcare professionals.
My particular interest is on the impact of postgraduate and continuing education and training on the work of healthcare practitioners (such as doctors, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists). A related area of research interest is knowledge transfer and mobilisation in healthcare settings.
After gaining a PhD in 1988, I taught for a year before taking up a research post at the School of Education, University of Birmingham in 1990. I was promoted to Reader in Medical and Dental Education in 2005 and served as co-Director of Research for three years from October 2005. I took up my current post as Professor and Director of the Cardiff Unit for Research and Evaluation in Medical and Dental Education (CUREMeDE) in 2009.
My contribution to teaching has taken the form of MPhil/PhD supervision (four graduating with PhDs in 2008) and research methods training.
With a focus on the education and development of health professionals, research interests include
- knowledge transfer and exchange
- continuing professional development and impact on practice
- workplace based learning
- assessment, revalidation and appraisal
- role structures and extended duties
