Professor David Walters' research and writing is on various aspects of the work environment and he has particular interests in employee representation and consultation on healthy and safety, the politics of health and safety at work, regulating health and safety management, chemical risk management at work and health and safety in small firms. He is the editor of the international journal, Policy and Practice in Health and Safety, a member of the IOSH research Committee and was Special Adviser, to the House of Commons Work and Pensions Select Committee.

Current Funded Research

Activities include:

  • An international review of worker representation on health and safety in collaboration with the European trades Union Confederation (The EPSARE project)
  • A study of the role of supply chains in regulating health and safety and
  • The most recent of a series of studies on chemical risk management, this one focussing on the issue of knowledge transfer in chemical risk management in small firms in Wales
