Li YU is the Director of China-UK Research Centre for Eco-cities and Sustainable Development, and Director of MSc Eco-cities, Cardiff University. He has been selected and/or recommended as the member of Board Director of Chinese Society for Urban Studies, a member of the Chinese Eco-city Council, and various academic and professional committees. He is also an adjunct professor of China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong, (CELAP is a Chinese national institution responsible for training Chinese senior and middle-level government leaders and high-level business executives), and other universities in both China and other countries.

The main research interests of Li YU include planning systems and theories, international comparative planning and development; and policy research on the city and regional development such as integrated urban and rural development, low carbon, eco-liveable city and rural planning and development.

Before he joined Cardiff University, he used to work at the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design. He has both academic research and practical professional planning and policy-making experiences. In the last few years, the main research projects that were led and/or participated in by him consist of smart\low carbon eco-city development, rural revitalisation and development, and ecological transition of various cities. Some of his research projects have made significant impacts on policies in practices, such as “Roadmap and Mechanism on Rural Revitalisation”, “Chinese Eco-city Indicator System”, “Chinese Eco-city Development Guidelines” and "Progressing Eco-city Policies into Main-stream Practice - Action Research on Policy, Financing and Implementation Strategies for Low Carbon Cities in China".

于立，卡迪夫大学中英生态城市与可持续发展研究中心主任，地理与规划学院生态城市硕士专业负责人；中国城市研究学会理事、中国生态城市委员会以及多个学术和专业委员会成员。他还是中国浦东干部学院（中浦院是负责培养中国中、高层干部和高级企业管理人员的中央国家机构）以及中国和其他国家其他大学的兼职教授。于立的主要研究方向为规划体系与理论、国际比较规划与发展；以及城乡一体化发展，低碳生态宜居城乡规划与发展，以及城市和区域发展的政策研究。

在加入卡迪夫大学之前，他曾在中国城市规划设计研究院工作。他既有学术研究也有城乡发展和规划政策制定的专业经验。近年来，于立主持和/或参与的主要研究项目内容包括了智慧\低碳生态城市建设，乡村振兴与发展，以及一些城市生态转型研究等。他的一些研究项目在实践中对政策产生了重大影响，如“乡村振兴路线和机制”、“中国低碳生态城市指标体系”、“中国低碳生态城市发展指南”和“推进生态城市政策进入主流实践——中国低碳城市政策、融资和实施策略的行动研究”，等。

生态城市硕士专业的简单介绍

生态城市不仅仅是关于生态环境，更是对过去100多年城市发展模式和规划方法的反思。目前世界各国正在推动和实施的应对气候变化，节能减排，低碳绿色发展，可持续发展的具体措施都是生态城市关注和研究的内容，例如其中包括绿色建筑政策，可持续的排水系统（在中国称为“海绵城市”），绿色交通，紧凑型城市，智慧发展等等。生态城市专业是对探索可持续发展三个组成部分：经济，社会和环境一体化、协调发展和规划的模式。另外这个专业不仅仅关注城市问题，也涉及城乡协调发展和乡村可持续发展的问题。因为城市的发展离不开乡村。

攻读生态城市硕士专业对于个人未来的发展也有积极的意义。世界各国的政府和机构都在探索可持续发展的规划和发展；在中国也一样。中国政府提出的“生态文明建设”，为生态城市专业的学生创造了用武之地。
