I support Professor Diana Huffaker, Sêr Cymru Chair in Advanced Engineering and Materials, and the Sêr Cymru research group as the Adminstrative Officer.
I started working for Cardiff University in October 2018, where I support Professor Diana Huffaker, Sêr Cymru Chair in Advanced Engineering and Materials, and the Sêr Cymru research group. Professor Huffaker is also the Scientific Director of the Institute for Compound Semiconductors (ICS), and I assist with her activity in these roles and the activity of the Ser Cymru Research group. My responsibilities cover a comprehensive range of professional business and project development activities. These include administrative, programmatic and financial support, managing internal and external correspondence, network and communication development within the University, UK/Welsh Government, Research Councils UK and CS Connected, organising travel, monitoring project accounts and report writing.
In March 2017, I became a full-time Administrator for a not for profit organisation called Wales Restorative Approaches Partnership (W.R.A.P) that primarily deals with conflict resolution and relationship building, maintaining and repairing. I was very active in the administration of their social media and website communication, collating reports from feedback carried out with our clients, events management and diary management of the whole team.
Whilst working part time at WRAP, I also held a full-time post of Retail Manager at a major high street retailer in Cardiff town centre. I worked for the high-street retailer for 5 years where my talents were recognised and I quickly secured a promotion to work as part of the management team after only 6 months as a Sales Assistant.
I have also worked with Jane Hutt AM, where I was an intern for a year and a half. There I experienced what it was like to work in a busy office environment. I assisted in writing letters and emails to the Assembly Member’s constituency (Vale of Glamorgan), researched information for the office manager, organised the casework filing system and completed any other ad hoc duties. For a short time, I also covered for the Diary Secretary which involved responding to invitations to meetings/events and diary management.
I have a degree in Media Communications BA from the University of South Wales, where I achieved a 2:1 qualification with my dissertation examining celebrity endorsements within advertising. I still have a strong passion for media and marketing which I hope to explore in my current role.
