Dr Andrew Jones
My research interests lie primarily in the areas of (a) novel cloud architectures and applications; and (b) design and interoperability of heterogeneous distributed information systems, particularly in the field of biodiversity informatics. Novel cloud architectures and applications: my interests include time-critical cloud applications; edge computing; and novel user interfaces to specify, build and control such applications. Biodiversity informatics: my interests include understanding how biodiversity data can be shared using appropriate standards and unique identifiers; designing scientific workflow systems to be usable by non-programmers for creating complex workflows; and using constraints and other techniques to build cross-maps to assist with semantic interoperation among resources that use species names and ways of describing organisms that differ. This research has been supported by various past and present nationally and internationally funded projects.
