Biography

I qualified with a BDS from the College of Dental Surgery, Manipal in 2002 as the Best Outgoing students and winning all the gold medals available at that time. Following postgraduate specialist training in Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Manipal, India, I served as an Assistant Professor and subsequently Reader at my alma mater where I also co-ordinated the International Qualifying Examination training program for licensure examinations  in the United Kingdom. During this time, I also achieved the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow and full licensure with the General Dental Council in the UK via the Overseas Registration Examination. I subsequently moved to London where I engaged in general dental practice and attained vocational training equivalency. I then went on to undertake further hospital training in the field of Restorative Dentistry in Scotland, where I held posts in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh. As a Specialty Registrar, I trained as a specialist in Restorative Dentistry with a special interest in the management of the hypodontia patient. As a specialist, I first qualified with the specialty Membership in Endodontics examination from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and subsequently also achieved the Fellowship in Dental Surgery in the specialty of Restorative Dentistry (by examination) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. As a specialty registrar, I also undertook research in the field of dental pulp stem cells and their application in revitalization procedures, specifically with reference to dentine matrix proteins. This research was at the core of my doctoral studies at the Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Edinburgh which led to a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree award. Currently based at Cardiff University, I am a clinical academic who leads the postgraduate MClinDent specialty programme in Endodontology and also serve as the Director of Postgraduate Taught Programmes at the Dental School. The current areas for research include the application of CBCT in endodontics, cervical resorption and dental trauma. Working for the National Health Service at the University Dental Hospital, I undertake patient care as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry. At the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, I am a member of the Specialty Advisory Board in Restorative Dentistry and currently lead the delivery of the MEndo oral assessments. I examine both, for the Royal Colleges and the University, within the UK and overseas. I have authored several chapters in books and journal papers and presented both nationally and internationally, winning a poster award at the European Society of Endodontology in 2015. I also peer review for international journals such as the Journal of Dentistry and Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics. I am also an accredited volunteer for the cleft lip and palate repair charity, Operation Smile.
