Overview

Dr Luzia Dominguez works as a Lecturer at the Cardiff School of Modern Languages.

She studied Hispanic Philology at a Coruña University in Spain, obtaining a PhD in Hispanic Sociolinguistics. She took part in the “Sociolinguistic Map of Galicia”, founded by the Galician government in Spain. She also took part in several research projects in A Coruña University,  focusing on public discourse, and produced several publications. She provided training and communication consulting services for two companies as part of this work. At the time, she was also lecturing Linguistics, Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics and Spanish Language.

Luzia has been very active in the voluntary sector in Cardiff, where she worked in partnership with Cardiff University, Communities First (Welsh Government) and Play Aloud (Cardiff Council), as well as with several local organizations. She developed several projects, supporting children and women from ethnic minority backgrounds and living in situations of deprivation.

Having worked at Cardiff University since 2005, she teaches Spanish as a second language and develops scholarship on the pedagogy of Spanish, with a focus on the teaching of communicative competence to learners of L2 (second language). She is also the Membership Secretary for UCU (University College Union) and was elected as a member of the University´s Senate.
