PCUTL and national recognition of teaching

Programme Accreditation

As a programme of professional development for those who teach and support learning in Higher Education, PCUTL is aligned with the UK Professional Standards Framework for teaching and supporting learning in higher education (the UKPSF). We have gained accreditation for the Programme such that it offers a pathway for recognition against the standards to both Descriptor 1 (Associate Fellow; Module 1 and Module 2 or Module 3 stand-alone) and Descriptor 2 (Fellow; Module 1, Module 2 and Module 3).

Individual Professional Recognition

The HEA’s Professional Recognition Scheme has been developed with the aim of raising the status of teaching in higher education. It is referenced to the sector-owned UK Professional Standards Framework. The scheme provides individuals with the opportunity to gain recognition as an Associate, Fellow or Senior Fellow. Individuals can apply for recognition either:

  • On completion of academy accredited professional development provision
  • On the basis of their experience in teaching and learning
  • On the basis of their National Teaching Fellowship Scheme individual award or nomination (as a Fellow only).

Further information about individual professional recognition is available on the HEA’s website:
