Cardiff University staff can make great savings on the cost of a new bike by taking advantage of a Government initiative aimed at increasing the number of people cycling to work as part of positiveBenefits scheme launching on July 1st 2008.

Using salary sacrifice, the bike will be free of income tax and national insurance. So as well as having the convenience of spreading the cost of a bike over 18 months, the scheme means the bike is cheaper too - savings are up to 19% for basic-rate taxpayers and up to 32% for higher-rate taxpayers.
