Keith Meek, Andrew Quantock, Carlo Knupp and Craig Boote were awarded a programme grant from the Medical Research Council for 5 years. The value of the award is £1,754,774. This is the third successive MRC programme grant to Keith Meek’s group, all of which were valued at over £1million. The new grant will fund Sally Hayes for a further term as well as employing an electron microscopist and another post-doctoral research associate. The funds will also be used to purchase a volume scanning electron microscope, which allows automated sectioning of samples and therefore 3D imaging at high magnification. This will be the only such instrument in Wales, and keeps the Structural Biophysics group at the fore-font of corneal structure and imaging.
