I am currently employed to maintain and develop the OCT (optical coherence tomography) research system at Cardiff University as part of the VSBL group. I also provide training for the OCT system so that other users can operate the system independently. I have also helped users to acquire and analyse OCT data for a variety of different projects including electrophysiology and pathological retinal imaging, helping to overcome optical, mechanical and computational problems. I also provide custom image processing software and expertise on optical and mechanical design and Labview and Matlab programming.
My PhD was entitled Full Field Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography. The aim of this research was to develop a novel approach to OCT and build a prototype system to investigate its potential. I was able to successfully build the prototype and acquire 3D ex vivo images of retinal samples with image quality comparable to clinical systems. The work involved mechanical construction of the prototype, optical design, interfacing the electronic controls, writing the control code and analysing the completed system
